Actively Aging Classes

Actively Aging classes held at Retirement Villages are on Mondays. Some groups complete the whole strength component sitting on a chair whilst others are like a traditional mat Pilates class and have to be able to get up and down from the floor.

Initially we start each class with a form of movement – the mat classes increase their heart rate to music whilst the chair classes move to music whilst seated. Each group uses Therabands for their strength component and the whole body is worked – starting from the neck down to the toes.

Each term the classes are themed to incorporate Neurotraining work. At the end of each session there is 20mins dedicated to improving gross motor skills, co-ordination, accuracy of movement and balance.

Term 1 – Parkour for Seniors

Term 2 – Neurotraining Drills

Term 3 – Dance

Term 4 – Sports

Deanna has spent two years studying Neurotraining and is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of the aging population through better brain/ body neurological connections. All the classes are filled with laughter as we bring back the artform of play!

NOTE: As the exercise classes include balance, co-ordination, agility and strength exercises, every effort is made to ensure a safe and supportive environment, however accidents can happen and a disclaimer to attend classes will need to be filled in.
